DEMOCRAT CHRONICLE, thursday 7 july 1932: Merlin Van Dame. 13, of 63 Garland Street, died at 3:23 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the General Hospital after resisting death nearly 24 hours longer than physicians thought possible. Merlin was pierced through the abdomen Monday afternoon by a bullet from a -38 caliber revolver in the hands of William Andrews 13. of 1405 Jay Street, while the boys were playing "cops and robbers." Police said the shooting was entirely accidental. Coroner Richard A. Leonardo has taken charge of the case. He says he will conduct an inquest at the Morgue next week.
