Smith, jr., who until a year ago had been a resident of Cleveland, Mr. Smith, who was 36, was killed Wednesday in a private plane crash near his home at Pomona, Cal. A business associate also died in the accident. In Cleveland, Mr. Smith had been a member of the Cleveland Athletic Club and had been associated with the Frederick W. Winkler Insurance Agency. In recent years he had been a representative in several states for R. L. Polk & Co. He served three and one half years in the last war with the United States Marines.
